History

Gin and tonic appeared in the 19th century as a medical solution for British soldiers during the colonial era. However, Schweppes was the first carbonated soft drink created by a German jeweler and science buff, Jean Jacob Schweppe.

In 1783 Schewppe managed to carbonate water for the first time, which marked the beginning of a long historical journey starting as a medicinal product until 1830, when it definitively became a highly popular drink.

Over the years, they expanded their product range by adding flavors to carbonated water, thus creating the first lemon carbonated soft drink. In 1870 they changed their production, adding quinine to the drink in order to prevent malaria among English troops stationed in India. This is how Schweppes tonic was born, whose formula has remained unchanged to this day.
