Louro do Bolo 2023

Louro do Bolo 2023 is a white wine with Valdeorras Designation of Origin, produced by the Rafael Palacios winery.

It is a wine made from Godello and Treixadura grapes. It stands out for being without artifice, elegant and fresh, coming from a perfect vintage for white wines.

Elaboration

The Louro Do Bolo 2023 is made with Godello grapes from the Rafael Palacios plot, whose vineyards have an average age of 25 years, are located at an altitude of over 600 meters and grown on sandy granite soils. These plots are located in the municipality of O Bolo, in the districts of Chandoiro, Lentellais, Outardepregos and Santa Cruz do Bolo.

They are based on managing these vineyards through a traditional and ecological work method, without aggressive treatments for the plant and its soil. In this way, and thanks to the area's soil, a wine with a mineral and saline character is achieved.

The harvest is carried out selectively by plots and orientations. Subsequently, the must ferments in 35 HI Foudres. of French oak and remains aged on its fine lees for 4 months until bottling.

• View : Clean and elegant appearance, straw-colored with a greenish rim.
• Nose : Intense aromas of plants such as fennel, gorse and a hint of chestnut blossom. With citrus notes and memories of wet rock.

Appellation of origin

The Valdeorras Denomination of Origin is an area whose winemaking tradition dates back to Roman times. One of the main factors that made the presence of vineyards possible was the Mediterranean-oceanic climate. In 1945 the DO was recognized by Ministerial Order, and since then, they have opted to recover native varieties such as Godello and Mencía. The vineyard areas of this Denomination are spread across the municipalities of A Rúa, Carballeda de Valdeorras, Larouco, O Barco, O Bolo, Petín, Rubiá and Vilamartín.

The production areas occupy a large part of the Sil, Xares and Bibei river basins. In them, the climate is drier than in the rest of Galicia, mixing the Atlantic influence with continental features. The average temperature is about 11ºC and the rainfall rate ranges between 850 and 1,000 mm. annual.

The soils are varied, slaty, granitic, sandier, and even those that sit on sediments and terraces. Thanks to this variety of soils we find two single-varietal wines, the white from Godello and the red from Mencía.

The authorized grape varieties are: For whites, preferably, Godello, and also, Dona Branca and Palomino or Jerez. For the reds, preferably Mencía and Sousón, but also Brancellao, Merenzao or María Ardoña, Negreda, Garnacha Tintorera, Alicante, Tempranillo and Grao Negro.

Rafael Palacios , located in the westernmost part of the Valdeorras region, achieves its extensive catalog of wines, thanks to the sandy soil that is formed by the natural degradation of granite and the presence of quartz. Today, the vineyards owned are 28 plots, with a total of 24.5 hectares of the Godello variety, where the continental climate with Atlantic influence benefits its cultivation. They are vineyards with an altitude that ranges between 620-740 meters.
