Cointreau
Description
Cointreau is a liqueur of French origin, made from the distillation of both sweet and bitter orange peels, distilled in copper stills.
This liquor was created in the Cointreau family distillery in 1875, in the town of Saint-Barthélemy-d'Anjou, in the French region of Pays de la Loire.
Preparation and aging
Cointreau is made from orange peels. This liquor is of high alcohol content, obtained from the distillation of orange peels of diverse varieties and origins, both sweet and bitter, which are dried in the sun, macerated and distilled in copper stills, resulting in an essential oil. which gives the liquor an intense and very natural aroma, between sweet and bitter. Then, this essential oil is mixed with alcohol, water, sugar and spices, but it is difficult to know the percentage, since the secret of its preparation and composition has been kept for more than 130 years.
