History

Corona was born in 1925 at the Modelo brewery plant, under the command of Braulio Iriarte Goyeneche. In 1926 the factory began producing Corona in “quarts” of bottles and stopped packaging the beer in dark bottles - to preserve its essential oils - since consumers liked its transparent packaging better. In 1935, ten years after its launch, Corona became Mexico's best-selling beer.

In 1940 the brand decided to stamp the label directly on the beer, because they focused on international marketing. Along with the expansion of beer beyond the borders of Mexico, in 1955 one of its partners, Nemesio Díez, ordered the construction of the stadium for the Diablos Rojos soccer team, thus beginning a long tradition of sports sponsorship. In 1976 the beer arrived in the United States, generating a great reception from the public. The beer arrived in Spain in 1989. In 2015 Corona Extra became the best-selling Mexican beer in 150 countries.
