Baron De Chirel 2018

Barón de Chirel 2018 is a red wine from the DO Rioja produced by one of the classic wineries in the area, Marqués de Riscal.

Talking about the Marqués de Riscal winery means talking about prestige, innovation, non-conformity and quality. Values ​​that have always been united since 1858, the year of its foundation.

Preparation and aging

Barón de Chirel 2018 is a blend of Tempranillo (80%) and other varieties (20%). The grapes come from a selection of very old vineyards, between 80 and 110 years old, with a very low yield but of high quality. As for the production, after manual harvesting and passing through the selection table, fermentation is carried out at a controlled temperature of 26ºC and maceration that does not exceed 12 days. It undergoes malolactic fermentation in wooden vats and is subsequently aged for 20 months in French oak barrels. It has a refining period in the bottle of at least one year before going on the market.

Barón de Chirel emerged in 1986 as a result of an experimental production using a selection of grapes from very old vines, between 80 and 110 years old, with very low yield and high quality. From the results of this test is born what will be a precursor of what could be called wines of the new era of Rioja. This wine is produced in a very limited way in only the great vintages, where the character of the vineyard, the soil and the variety are expressed, within a harmonious whole.
