In 1890, five families from Rioja and Basque decided to launch a project in the Barrio de la Estación in Haro, the “Sociedad Vinícola de La Rioja Alta” . The Reserva 1890 (predecessor of the current Gran Reserva 890) was the first wine they made.

For several generations, La Rioja Alta has put all its effort into combining its barrels, artisanal racking and long aging with the most modern technology. The objective is to maintain traditional winemaking by increasing the quantity of the product, in order to create more wine and distribute it. It differs from many other wineries in the Rioja DO by producing limited quantities where they accentuate the maximum quality of the wine. Their crops are less than 5,000 kilos per hectare and are technologically controlled from the beginning to the end of the harvest.

They are dedicated to manufacturing barrels with American oak wood, imported from the United States and dried in the open air for two years. Each of the barrels is racked in order to promote the evolution of the wine, naturally cleaning the sediments.

History of Araña Gran Reserva Wine

Viña Arana , incorporated into the Grandes Reservas line of La Rioja Alta, is a trademark registered in 1974 . It is a wine with its own style and an extraordinary aging capacity. In recent years, the winery has found out that some of the Araña Wine harvests have been extraordinary, resulting in an excellent Gran Reserva wine.

The Viña Arana Gran Reserva 2012 is the perfect option for young wine lovers who want to enter the wine world based on tradition but taking advantage of new trends. It is a tasty, vibrant and very elegant wine.

The 2015 vintage is characterized by drought, which brought great heterogeneity to the grapes. At the end of September the vineyards were positively surprised by rain, as the berries ripened perfectly. The grapes entered the winery in very good condition and with a balance between alcohol content and polyphenols. This allowed us to produce wines of high quality, good structure and aromatics.

It is recommended to consume it with meats, stews, fatty fish or sweet chocolate desserts.
